Projects: Intergenerational Coresidence in Global Perspective: Dimensions of Change (ERC-2021-ADG No 101052787) and Temps per a la vida: indicadors, polítiques i impacte social dels usos del temps en la consecució dels ODS a Catalunya (2002–2024) (2025 IMPAC 00066)
This position is embedded within a research line at the Centre for Demographic Studies (CED) focused on the analysis of contemporary social transformations from a demographic, comparative and quantitative perspective. The research examines changes in living arrangements, household structures, intergenerational relationships and time use, and how these relate to social inequalities, gender and different stages of the life course.
The work combines census and survey data from different countries, including time-use surveys, to analyse both the individual and family factors associated with these transformations and the broader global and territorial patterns that shape them. Particular attention is given to intergenerational coresidence, the distribution of time between paid work, care and personal life, time poverty and gender inequalities, combining comparative demographic research with the development of indicators and tools aimed at knowledge transfer and evidence-informed public policy.
The researcher will contribute to a range of research activities across both projects, working closely with the Principal Investigators. Main responsibilities include:
a) Conducting advanced analyses to identify patterns and variations in intergenerational coresidence worldwide, examining the factors underlying its growth and changing forms, and assessing their relationships with demographic, social, economic, cultural, and attitudinal factors.
b) Developing, validating, and facilitating the transfer of a system of time-use indicators to support Catalonia’s progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on reducing time-related inequalities, improving daily well-being, and strengthening social co-responsibility in caregiving.
c) Contributing to the dissemination and scientific exploitation of research findings, including preparing manuscripts for publication in international peer-reviewed journals, presenting results at national and international conferences, producing policy-oriented reports, and participating in other knowledge-transfer activities.
The position requires experience in demographic and social research, particularly in the analysis of census data and survey microdata. Familiarity with time-use survey is especially important for the Temps per a la vida project
